Common mistakes on software tester resumes
- Only listing testing types. Say what you tested, how much and what you found.
- Leaving out tools (Jira, Selenium, Postman) that postings filter on.
- For automation roles, no programming language named.
- No numbers: test cases, defects, regression time saved.
Lay it out in an ATS-friendly resume format. If you are applying for your first job, the resume guide for freshers covers section order and projects.
Questions
- What skills should a software tester put on a resume?
- Manual testing (test cases, regression, defect reporting), the tools you use (Jira, Postman), automation (Selenium with Java or Python, or Cypress/Playwright), SQL for data checks, and Agile process experience.
- How does a fresher write a manual testing resume?
- Show a project where you tested a real application: the test cases you wrote, the defects you found, and the tools you used. Add basic automation or API testing if you have tried it.
- How do I move from manual testing to automation on my resume?
- Add the automation work you have done, even small: the scripts, the framework and what they replaced. Name the language and the tool.
- Should a tester resume be one page?
- Yes for under five years of experience.
- How do I check my software tester resume against a job description?
- Paste your resume and the job description into the free ATS resume checker. It shows which technical keywords from the posting your resume has and which are missing. No login, and nothing is uploaded.
