Node.js Developer Resume
A Node.js resume should show the APIs and services you built, the data behind them, and how they behave in production. Here is what to include at each stage.

Node.js Developer resume examples by experience
A summary line and three bullets for each stage. The people and companies are fictional; the shape is what to copy: what you built, with which stack, and what changed.
Node.js Developer resume: fresher
SUMMARY
Graduate backend developer who built and deployed REST APIs in Node.js and Express.js with MongoDB, tests and Docker.
BULLETS
- Built a URL shortener API in Node.js, Express.js and MongoDB with rate limiting and click analytics; deployed with Docker on Render.
- Wrote Jest and Supertest tests for every endpoint and ran them in GitHub Actions.
- Added JWT auth and input validation, returning consistent error responses across the API.
Node.js Developer resume: 3 years of experience
SUMMARY
Node.js developer with 3 years building TypeScript APIs and background workers for a logistics platform.
BULLETS
- Built the shipment-tracking service in NestJS and PostgreSQL, ingesting webhook updates from five courier partners.
- Moved label generation to a BullMQ worker queue, cutting API response times from seconds to milliseconds.
- Found and fixed a memory leak in a long-running worker using heap snapshots, ending weekly restarts.
Node.js Developer resume: 5 years of experience
SUMMARY
Senior Node.js engineer with 5 years designing backend services, APIs and event pipelines.
BULLETS
- Designed an event-driven order pipeline on Kafka that decoupled payments, inventory and notifications.
- Defined the API standards (versioning, errors, pagination) used across the team’s 12 services.
- Led the TypeScript migration of the core API with strict mode and no production regressions.
Common mistakes on node.js developer resumes
- Listing "MERN" without naming the parts you actually built on the backend.
- Describing endpoints without saying what the service does or who uses it.
- No mention of testing, error handling or production behaviour, which backend interviews probe.
- A skills section full of npm packages instead of the stack that matters.
Lay it out in an ATS-friendly resume format. If you are applying for your first job, the resume guide for freshers covers section order and projects.
Questions
- What skills should a Node.js developer put on a resume?
- Node.js with JavaScript and TypeScript, Express.js or NestJS, REST APIs, a database you have designed schemas for (MongoDB or PostgreSQL), authentication, testing with Jest, and how you deploy (Docker, cloud). Add queues or GraphQL only if you have used them.
- How does a Node.js fresher write a resume?
- Lead with one or two deployed API projects: what each does, the stack, the database and the tests. Link the repository and the live API documentation.
- Should I list JavaScript and TypeScript separately?
- Yes. Many postings search for TypeScript specifically, so name both if you use both.
- How do I prepare for Node.js interviews?
- Expect the event loop, promises and async/await, streams, error handling and API design. FaangPrep has free JavaScript interview questions with step-by-step event loop traces.
- How do I check my node.js developer resume against a job description?
- Paste your resume and the job description into the free ATS resume checker. It shows which technical keywords from the posting your resume has and which are missing. No login, and nothing is uploaded.
Does your resume match the node.js developer job you want?
