Data Analyst resume examples by experience

A summary line and three bullets for each stage. The people and companies are fictional; the shape is what to copy: what you built, with which stack, and what changed.

Data Analyst resume: fresher

SUMMARY

Graduate data analyst with SQL, Excel, Power BI and Python projects on real public datasets.

BULLETS

  • Analysed three years of city bike-share trips in SQL and built a Power BI dashboard of demand by station and hour.
  • Cleaned and merged the raw files in Python with pandas, documenting each step so the analysis can be rerun.
  • Wrote a one-page summary recommending where to add docks, with the charts that support each point.

Data Analyst resume: 2 years of experience

SUMMARY

Data analyst with 2 years supporting the sales and marketing teams of a retail business.

BULLETS

  • Built the weekly sales dashboard in Power BI from SQL views, replacing a manual Excel report.
  • Found that one region’s returns were driven by a single product line and flagged it to the category team.
  • Defined the metric definitions (active customer, repeat rate) used across the marketing reports.

Data Analyst resume: 3 years of experience

SUMMARY

Data analyst with 3 years owning product analytics for a subscription app.

BULLETS

  • Analysed the onboarding funnel in SQL and Tableau and identified the step where most trial users dropped.
  • Designed and read out A/B tests for pricing page changes with the product team.
  • Built a churn report in Python that the retention team reviews every week.

Common mistakes on data analyst resumes

  • Listing tools without a question answered or a decision made from the analysis.
  • Dashboards described by their charts instead of who used them and for what.
  • Leaving out SQL depth (joins, window functions), which almost every analyst interview tests.
  • A bare "Excel" in the skills section; name what you do with it, like pivot tables and lookups.

Lay it out in an ATS-friendly resume format. If you are applying for your first job, the resume guide for freshers covers section order and projects.

Questions

What skills should a data analyst put on a resume?
SQL first, then Microsoft Excel (pivot tables, lookups), a BI tool such as Power BI or Tableau, Python with pandas, statistics, and data cleaning. Name the ones the job description asks for in the same words.
How does a data analyst fresher with no experience write a resume?
Lead with two or three analysis projects on real public data. For each, state the question, the data, the tools, the finding and a link to the dashboard or notebook.
Should a data analyst resume include a dashboard link?
Yes. A public Power BI or Tableau dashboard, or a notebook on GitHub, lets the reviewer see your work in a minute.
Should a data analyst resume be one page?
Yes for under five years of experience.
How do I check my data analyst resume against a job description?
Paste your resume and the job description into the free ATS resume checker. It shows which technical keywords from the posting your resume has and which are missing. No login, and nothing is uploaded.
