Python Developer Resume

Python roles range from web backends to data pipelines, so your resume has to make clear which one you do. Here is what to list and how to write it at each stage.

Python Developer resume examples by experience

A summary line and three bullets for each stage. The people and companies are fictional; the shape is what to copy: what you built, with which stack, and what changed.

Python Developer resume: fresher

SUMMARY

B.Tech graduate who built a Django REST API and a FastAPI service with PostgreSQL, tests and Docker.

BULLETS

  • Built an expense tracker API with Django REST Framework and PostgreSQL: token auth, filtering and pagination; 90% test coverage with pytest.
  • Wrote a FastAPI service that parses bank statement CSVs with pandas and returns monthly summaries.
  • Containerised both services with Docker and deployed them on Render.

Python Developer resume: 2-3 years of experience

SUMMARY

Python backend developer with 3 years building Django and FastAPI services for an e-commerce platform.

BULLETS

  • Built the order-tracking API in FastAPI handling courier webhooks from four partners, with retries and idempotency.
  • Moved slow report generation to Celery workers, so requests that took 40 s now return immediately.
  • Reduced database load by fixing N+1 queries in the Django admin and adding indexes found with query logging.

Python Developer resume: 5 years of experience

SUMMARY

Senior Python engineer with 5 years in backend and data systems; designs services and data pipelines and reviews the team’s code.

BULLETS

  • Designed the event ingestion pipeline (FastAPI, Kafka, PostgreSQL) that feeds the analytics and billing services.
  • Led the migration from Python 3.8 to 3.12 across 14 services with no customer-facing incidents.
  • Introduced typed interfaces (mypy) and a shared service template adopted by the team.

Common mistakes on python developer resumes

  • Not saying whether you do web backend, data or automation work. Lead with the one the job wants.
  • Listing libraries you used once in a tutorial. Keep what you could discuss in an interview.
  • Leaving out the framework (Django, FastAPI, Flask) that postings filter on.
  • Notebook-only projects for a backend role, with no API, tests or deployment.

Lay it out in an ATS-friendly resume format. If you are applying for your first job, the resume guide for freshers covers section order and projects.

Questions

What skills should a Python developer put on a resume?
Python 3, the web framework you use (Django, FastAPI or Flask), SQL with a relational database, REST APIs, testing with pytest, Git, and how you deploy (Docker, a cloud provider). For data roles add pandas, NumPy and the pipelines you built.
How should a Python fresher write a resume with no experience?
Lead with two projects that look like real work: an API with a database and tests, deployed somewhere you can link. Name the framework, what the project does and your part.
Django or FastAPI: which should I put on my resume?
Whichever you have used for a real project, and both if you have. Many postings name one of them, so match the posting’s wording.
Should my Python resume be one page?
Yes for freshers and most developers under five years of experience.
How do I check my Python resume against a job description?
Use the free ATS resume checker: paste your resume and the job description to see which technical keywords match and which are missing.
