What an ATS checks in your resume
An applicant tracking system stores every application a company receives. Recruiters search and filter it by skills, so a resume that never names a skill the job asks for can be passed over even when you have it. Each company sets its ATS up differently, which is why no tool can show you a specific company's score.
This checker measures the part every ATS search depends on: whether your resume contains the technical keywords in the job description, counting common spellings such as "K8s" for Kubernetes as the same skill. The full list of keywords it recognises is published.
How to raise your ATS score honestly
- Add a missing keyword only if you have used it, in the bullet where you used it.
- Use the job description's spelling of each skill, and the common variant once.
- Keep one column and standard headings: Experience, Projects, Skills, Education.
- Export a text-based PDF. If you cannot select its text, an ATS cannot read it either.
- No work experience yet? Follow the software engineer resume guide for freshers.
Questions
- How do I check my resume against a job description?
- Paste your resume text and the full job description into the two boxes above and press the check button. You get a match score, the technical keywords from the posting your resume already has, and the ones it is missing.
- Is this ATS score checker free, and do I need to log in?
- It is free and needs no login or sign-up. The check runs in your browser, so your resume is not uploaded or stored.
- What is a good ATS score?
- There is no universal ATS score, because each company configures its applicant tracking system differently. Treat the number as a guide: a low match usually means the posting asks for skills your resume never names, and those missing terms are the useful part of the result.
- Is this the same score a company ATS will give me?
- No tool can show you a specific company’s ATS score. This checker measures one thing that matters in every ATS search: whether your resume contains the technical keywords the job description asks for.
- How do I improve my ATS score?
- Add a missing keyword only if you have used it, and put it in the experience or project bullet where you used it, not only in a skills list. Use the posting’s spelling, keep a one-column layout with standard headings, and export a text-based PDF.
